Does anybody out there own either Star Wars: Battlefront, or The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth? I know that there's an online service available for Battlefront, which I wouldn't do, but then there's also a normal single player mode which looked quite good. Battle for Middle-Earth looked good as well, but I don't want to dish out any money until I hear some solid reviews.

I've played both and Battlefront is just awesome but I wasn't quite as pleased with LOTR. That may just be my personal preference but I would not buy the LOTR game. You definitely can't go wrong with Battlefront though.

Battlefront was crap. It's BF1942 (which sucks) but with much more cramped maps, and just random killing over and over.

A good text-based online game is Vampires , the dark alleyway, it's fairly simple but its extremely addictive, i've been on for about a year or two.

I bought the bloody game (B4ME) and my friends and I STILL don't play it... you have to mod the game for any real battles (i.e. you get 5 horsemen if your Rohan???) anyways even after mod the gameplay still sucked. It was NOT a good game... battlefront is just a spawn off of battlefield with better graphics (and unfortunately horrible balancing... the sniper reloads so quick I think I ended a game with over 70 headshots). Either game I wouldn't purchase due to the non-originality, I'd rather go with Battlefield Vietnam or 1942.... and for an RTS... go with Rise of Nations, or Age of Mythology
